Salam! I'm Arsala, a technological problem solver who specializes as a creator and software engineer. I discovered my passion for teaching and building open-source technology during my Computer Science undergraduate degree at UofT's Mississauga campus. There, I served as a Teaching Assistant and coordinator of a department initiative called the Hacklab which helped students bring their tech ideas to life. In the industry, I have worked as a software engineer at Google and Vida. I loved working with teams to bring a common vision to the people. I was grateful for the opportunities for growth in design and product research & development that were made available to me there. Currently, I am the founder and president of Grey Software, a not-for-profit organization that empowers students to build open-source software for their communities and societies. https://grey.software

Software Engineer Intern
Apr 2019 - Sep 2019 (5 months)
After having developed Android applications for 4 months professionally and over a year as a hobbyist, I got the chance to work with the wonderful Android Studio team that was supporting my Android development ventures behind the scenes.

At this internship my project gave me the chance to coordinate with teams across Google on a feature to audit and Android app’s quality. My project culminated with a demo for an interactive web app that gave an overview of an Android app’s rendering performance by analyzing systrace output.

On the software engineering side, I used Kotlin and Java to fix bugs and add features to the Android Studio Profiler. I was honored to collaborate with smart googlers and have my code reviewed by excellent engineers.

Software Engineer Intern
May 2018 - Sep 2018 (4 months)
I was so excited for my first Google internship! I vowed to be a sponge for the technical wisdom around me and make the most out of the opportunity I was awarded.

I was a Tools and Infrastructure engineer for Google Cloud, where I worked on an internal tool to help visualize and debug large systems. I added a plugin to integrate with Pub/Sub services, and wrote a feature that summarized debugging information so developers could catch errors more efficiently.

There was no formal survey conducted, but I believe I drank more hot chocolate than any other intern that summer.
