Currently working as a Research Software Engineer at OPUS IVS (Autologic Ltd) outside of Oxford, an automotive diagnostics company that creates OBD-II based tools for use by garages globally to help repair vehicles. My daily tasks involve developing functionality for use in the companies tools primarily using C/C++/Java, other tasks involve maintaining old products in either C#/PowerBasic. At University I studied Computer Science. I have had the chance to experience many different languages and types of programming, however, a lot of the technical skills that I have learnt have been through personal development in my free time. I have developed two Android Applications while studying at university, these were passion projects and allowed me to experiment with the Unity game engine and develop my skills with C#. My final year project was a networked board game made in Unity that had a custom server made for it which was then hosted on AWS, during my free time I have experimented with creating a multiplayer server for a larger scale Unity game. The experience I gained through my industrial placement combined with experience from developing applications, helped me decide on my final year project. It was a video game representation of a Scandinavian medieval board (Hnefatafl) game produced in the Unity engine and C#, while also featuring a WPF/C# server application which used asynchronous TCP and sockets to provide multiplayer functionality to the game. This was released on the Google Play Store for user testing and is my most comprehensive application to date.
