Christian Ledermann
Sr. Software Engineer at Oomnitza
Gaillimh, Ireland

Software Development is a learning process, Working code is a side effect. I am a mediocre programmer. Not a ninja or a guru, just average and taking pride in my craft. Since 2003 I work (almost) exclusively with open source software and I don't look back to the days I had to deal with closed software products. “I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious.” —Albert Einstein

PrimarySite Limited
Apr 2015 - Sep 2020 (5 years 5 months)
Newark on Trent, Nottinghamshire
Sr. Django Programmer
PrimarySite is the leading provider of websites for primary schools in the UK, with a market share of about 30% (around 4000 Schools). It helps schools and trusts to communicate with their key audiences. PrimarySite builds websites specially designed to meet the needs of schools and trusts and provides a host of school communication tools to help with parental engagement.

I improved the existing CMS, built in Django/Python with a PostgreSQL database, and added new features and service. I helped with onboarding of new-starters introducing them into our codebase, service oriented architecture, our processes, coding standards, style and guidelines. Furthermore, I mentored members of other departments in the company who wanted to cross train into software development. We continuously improved our processes, and paid off technical debt making the implementation more SOLID, easier to maintain and extend.

Achievements:
• Decompose the legacy monolithic applications into smaller more manageable services.
• Develop APIs to communicate between internal and external services
• Lead the development of the video resource centre.
• Introduction of the mass email service.
• Design and improve the architecture of new services and existing services.
• Automate the boring things to improve the CI process to ensure test coverage, enforce code style guidelines and scan for security vulnerabilities.
• Improve the test coverage from 70% to 95% o the legacy system and ensured all new services had 97% - 100% code coverage.
• Performance optimizations of the applications and databases.
• Prototype a data warehouse, ETL pipelines, denormalization for ROLAP, and analytics platform.
