Shift Bundles for Nurses
Dec 2020 - Dec 2022
CareRev
The most impactful thing I worked on is that I solely built a product that would allow nurses to accept shift bundles (i.e. 2 shifts/week for 2 weeks) instead of single shifts (i.e. 48 shifts individually), creating over $50M in revenue. This eliminated a lot of busy work for the marketing team, who were single-handedly creating PDFs and emailing and cold-calling nurses for weeks to get them to accept assignments of shift bundles. I was the sole backend engineer on this product. It was only me, a frontend Elm/React engineer and the product manager. This created a whole new stream of revenue for the company, and it took pride in being the only backend person who knew how it really worked. Of course, developer silos aren't that great, so I transferred the knowledge at some point (2 years later), but sometimes silos are inevitable at early stage startups with so few devs. I learned a ton about ActiveAdmin, ActionMailer and Sidekiq during this process, and honed my communication skills working with the marketing team.
