Technical lead on a large and diverse scientific web site. Currently implementing an open source mod_perl framework and management suite - Pagesmith - which is designed to simplify the web development process without getting in the way!
Under the framework I have been involved with setting up a number of interfaces to manage both scientific and administrative interfaces on campus, including on-site security, PhD admissions system.
Also in the role is the responsibility to manage the web setup and security for nearly 120 production (and 400 development) hosts, - from maintaining the front end Brocade traffic managers and some of the large number of servers running behind these.

Pagesmith is the loose framework behind a number of websites at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute.
It is a combination of:
* backend development in mod_perl and SQL on Apache, including common components - tables, tabs, forms, panels...
* frontend development in jQuery, RaphaelJS and Vanilla.js;
* a page wrapper for proxied sites written in any language;
* website optimisation tools - to automatically optimise javascript, css and images;
* a suite of server management and maintenance tools to allow management of a large number of sites by a large number of developers from a central location.
