BSc Graduate thesis - The study on the aquaculture wastewater treatment using photoelectrocatalysis method
Jan 2015 - Jun 2015
Abstract: Aquaculture has been a fast-growing industry because of the promotion of intensive farming. However, the pollution it caused posed severe threat to this development. Among the pollutants it released to the environment, nitrite is one of the crucial limiting factors due to its acute toxicity to animals and human. In this study, a TiO2 nanotube electrode was prepared and used as an anode in a photo electrocatalysis system for nitrite removal. The team investigated several factors regarding the removal efficiency, including the voltage, salinity, pH and the existence of ammonia. The results showed that increasing the voltage elevated the photo-generated current and the current was close to saturation at a voltage of 1V. High salinity (25‰) contributed to nitrite removal, and a removal efficiency of 95% can be reached in 30min. The existence of ammonia impaired nitrite removal. Nitrite was oxidized faster in acidic solution while ammonia decreases more rapidly in alkaline solution.
Quantitative Analysis of Innovative Biosystems (Broiler case)
Sep 2015 - Nov 2015
Summary: This project compared the innovative broiler production farm (Windstreek) and a traditional one by conducting sensitivity analysis on energy use, dust concentration and profit. The team generated different scenarios based on the results of sensitivity analysis and performed a trade-off analysis on the scenarios.
Role in project: Team member
Tasks:
1. Identified relevant sustainability issues and selected parameters for the comparison of an innovative broiler production system and a conventional production system
2. Planned and performed sensitivity analysis and trade-off analysis
Conceptural design of a a robotic system to simulate installation of a sap pipeline between the maple dowels irregularly distributed in a forest
Apr 2014 - May 2014
Summary: My main task in this project is to propose a possible structure for end-effectors and manipulators of the robot. The robot’s aim is to connect twelve dowels fixed on a board using a string. The design consists of three end-effectors, two of which are the same except for its position, and the two are used to paste the string to the dowel, another end-effector is used for holding the string and leading it to a certain position. Also, the three end-effectors are fixed to the same manipulator, which is a rotating circular plate, capable of turning to certain angles. So the end-effectors move synchronously. The design makes it possible for the robot to connect the dowels on both sides along its path.

During my thesis project, I constructed and evaluated a complete pipeline for an object detection problem. The pipeline consists of three parts, segmentation, localization and classification. Segmentation is achieved by excessive green and Otsu thresholding, localization is done by connected components and DBSCAN. The classifier is a deep convolutional neural network (AlexNet). My code was used for constructing demo presented in the Hannover Messe, 2017; results were presented in SIMA, Paris International Agribusiness Show, 2017
